The term “preventive maintenance” is mostly used to refer to routine steps performed on machines or devices, which help to keep these devices up and running.
In other words, we could say that it is a plan to take care of any device before an actual problem arises.
All electronic devices are prone to damage, especially if we don’t handle them as we should. So whether it is our PC, our smartphone/tablet, or any iDevice (iPhones or iPads), there are some simple guidelines we can follow for preventive maintenance.
This way, our devices will stay functional and in good shape for as long as possible, and we will have a better chance to replace them when we want, not because we were forced to.
“Cleaning” your iDevice isn’t the most exciting thing in the world, that true. But for anyone who sees the importance, below are some simple preventive maintenance tips that every iPhone or iPad user should know… just in case you haven’t gotten there yet, take out your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and follow along to keep things running smoothly.;
1: Delete Unused apps
You might have some apps you don’t use.
Maybe a time wasting game, some app your friend told you about which you’ve never tried or maybe it’s all the junk you downloaded in the first two weeks you got your phone
Delete all the unused apps! They’re taking up space and doing you no favors.
2: Put less-used apps & Junk into a Single Folder
Our iPhones and iPads come with imbedded apps which we don’t use, yet can’t uninstall.
You may want to hide these apps through restrictions, send them into a folder and put them on a secondary Home Screen for good.
Putting this unused stuff there helps to clean up the Home Screen, so it’s better than nothing.
3: Regular Back Up
Regular backup of your iDevices is very important.
A handful of people do it as often as they could. It is essential for so many reasons, from easy recovery in case your software update goes bad, you lose your iPhone, or in case of an upgrade. Just back up! Why the delay?
Use iCloud or iTunes to backup iOS devices, or both.
- iCloud is super easy but it easily gets overloaded if you have more than one iPhone or iPad on the same Apple ID.
- iTunes allows unlimited backups because it goes to your computer hard drive instead, which means even if you don’t have a huge hard drive, you can copy those backup files to an external drive to save some disk space and access them later.
Let’s just keep our fingers crossed and hope that that Apple gets more and more generous with iCloud storage so that it becomes a more reliable backup plan for everyone.
4: Update your iOS
I’ve noticed very few users regularly update their iOS. please from now on Update! Updating to the latest version of iOS is important because each release includes bug fixes, security updates, and often new features too. You could do this with as follows;
- Back up your device first,
- Open Settings and go to “General”
- Choose “Software Update” and if there’s an update available, select “Download and Install”\
5: Update your device’s Apps
Speaking of updating software… your apps also need to get updated. Do this after you’ve cleaned out and deleted the junk apps you don’t waste your bandwidth or time.
- Open the “App Store” app and go to “Updates”
- Choose “Update All” to update every app that has a new version available
Using Automatic Update is also recommended and is super easy. It’s entirely automated and goes on behind the scenes, insuring that your apps are always at their latest version. This feature is great for novice users, but mind you, it over drains your battery.
Turn it off if not used to keep your device lasting longer without being charged up.
