If surviving In Africa as an artist should be a course, very few will make it with good grades. In Africa, we don’t only neglect talent, we emphatically sit on it, and this is exactly the reason why some of our artists get caught up on the run way almost all the time. We can’t count the number of talent that has gone down the drain, can we?

There are some artists out here that all they got is unexplained talent and they need just a little push to hit their highest potential and that push can come more from fans, but how would they give support when they don’t even know the worth of what these artists offer? Terrible.
The lack of support and encouragement, makes it pretty difficult for these artists to pull through and hence – they end up like unconsumed milk in a tin. One thing about being an artist in Africa, especially doing a certain genre of music is that most often, you will be expected to survive before succeeding. However, some survive and feel like they have succeeded and end up struggling.
There is a saying that, if there is no one to push you, you have to learn to push yourself, but this is always easier said than done. You can push yourself for days but doing it for many years takes immeasurable grace. How many times have we watched talents go down the drain? The funniest thing is, we always come and cry as if we really care, but we honestly don’t.

It was never easy for an artist like Asa to make a name for herself, with jazz music but she did. Though she had the resources she needed in place like fan support, financing etc, there was a time she felt neglected that she had to do indie soul for sometime, but Jazz was still her prime. She lives in the France and at least in a Western country like that, she gets booked for shows and has concerts where her art was highly appreciated and that fueled her success.
