Shoprite which is Africa’s biggest retail holding, has confirmed in a trading statement on Monday that it will be terminating operations in Uganda and Madagascar. Shoprite was launched in Uganda in 2000, where it has five stores and it entered the Madagascan market in 2002 and operates 10 stores across the island. It’s withdrawal from these two countries adds to its growing list of African countries it has withdrawn from.
In 2020, Shoprite had announced plans to exit the Nigerian market after due to continuous decline in sales from its operations.
