The spotlight on gospel ministers who are less talked about but enact marvelous contributions to the spread of the gospel and evangelism. Our focus is on New Creation realities and how it has changed the whole narrative, influenced rap music and turned rappers to gospel ministers.
A new creation possesses a new, holy and divine nature opposed to the old version of them: You were born with a sinful, selfish, and corrupt nature. It was that nature that made you a slave of Sin. But through the new birth, you have now become a partaker of a new, holy and divine nature of God (2 Peter 1:1-4).
In the days of the old, condemnation was very imminent and though it made many to live in fear and trembling for the fear of being condemned and effects of the laws of the old that would follow suit, the chances of getting a second chance after erring, were almost non-existent. However, the coming of Christ and the spread of his new gospel, has brought about a shift in mindset and an opportunity for a second chance. Making condemnation of them who’re in Christ pointless.
In as much as many persons misunderstand the concept of new Creation realities, the idea is not to take advantage of the fact that there is grace in abundance to save no matter how many times we sin. Hell of a no! We can fall and rise, and that’s the idea. Well, that’s a topic for another day!
2 Corinthians 5:17 makes it clear:
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
This means the spirit has been renewed but not the body. This is why it’s still difficult for most persons to look past the skin of someone who has left the former to the latter.
How has the Narrative changed?
The narrative hasn’t completely changed per se, as people still end up being judged for their past lifestyles after accepting Christ, but the process is gradual and promising. The most important thing is that you see God at work in the persons who have been truly conquered by the spirit. In the days of the old, due to the obvious laws, nothing existed like Rap Music.
However, the advent of New Creation gospel has is changing that narrative. It’s important to understand that even though most people still look just at what they see, the spirit/heart of man is what God looks at.
1. G4 – Gospel Minister
Looking at gospel rappers like Cameroonian gospel rapper G4 who became a gospel minister using the rap culture, something that is still being mimicked upon by many especially in Africa. After a rugged experience on the streets, from a thug, and now a preacher/minister througth his music. He is one of the most tattooed artists in the house of God in the African setting. This is where the spirit has been converted and not the body.
The tattoos don’t stop him from serving in the house of the Lord. It will even suffice you to know that he’s shared the stage with the likes of Sinach, Frank Edwards and other reknown and popular African gospel singers since embarking on the journey, thanks to the new creation gospel.
G4 is also one of the most successful Cameroonian gospel singers and is the CEO of Eagle’s Wings Productions, a record label that is aimed at signing artists who can continue the mission to win souls for Christ.
In his early life, he idolized “worldly” rappers like Lil Wayne and eventually copied their lifestyle, but today, his way of life is completely different from what used to be. He’s arguably Paul of his generation, giving hope to the lost, to seek counsel on the Lord!
2. Gil Joe Gospel Minister
Accompanying him on this edition of Gospel Ministers Across Africa is Gil Joe, another gospel rapper influenced by the gospel. A Nigerian by birth, Joe is one of the main contributors to the growth of gospel Rap in Africa and has worked under the canopy of artists like Frank Edward. He’s possible one of Nigeria’s most influential youths as far as the gospel is concern and is signed to Gospel Hydration, a power house Gospel record label in Nigeria.
Both G4 and Gil Joe are motivational to listen to. Be inspired by the new way of life!
