The story of African-American woman April Ross, who defied the odds to become an inspiration to other African-Americans, is truly motivational.
In 2017, April Ross used her cell phone to record a scene in Lagrange where a young man had been shot. At that time, she had no idea she would one day own a TV station; she was just reporting on an incident. But her story took a dramatic turn.
April Ross began live streaming on Facebook to keep her community informed. One day, she received a call from a TV station asking her to fill in for a reporter who was absent. This opportunity marked the beginning of a new chapter in her life.
Ross recalls that this was the start of something big. After joining the TV channel, her husband encouraged her to ask the station’s owners if they were willing to sell. Ross initially thought they couldn’t afford it, but her husband insisted she should just ask. Following his advice, they eventually bought the TV station, now known as BeeTV. Ross emphasizes that the purchase didn’t happen overnight; it took consistent prayers and a lot of time, but they succeeded.
Although Ross graduated from Alabama University, she didn’t use her degree until 2017 when she began reporting on Facebook Live without initially aiming to become a professional newscaster.
“When God seemed silent, I knew I was on the right track. Never give up on yourself. No matter what. It might have seemed crazy to do a report with just a cell phone, but now it’s a fully-fledged network,” Ross said.
BeeTV, which had about 15,000 followers a few years ago, now boasts over 27,000 organic followers and operates as a fully functional TV station.
Ross’s story should motivate us because it shows that we can achieve great things. It highlights the strength and power of African women.
