The year 2021 has broken lose in the Entertainment Industry with some goblets of fire popping from left to right like fireworks. It is important to accept that the industry has come a long way, and even though we always look at the negative side of things, it is sometimes good to point out the positive side of things.
A week ago, one of Cameroon’s most influential actors and comedian, who is also a entrepreneur – Alenne Menget made a post on his Facebook timeline about Stanley Enow, amidst the uncontrollable tension of what should have been done, and what has to be done. Was he wrong about his opinion?
In his words, he aired that Stanley Enow who id and has been the leading artist of his generation, had the power to transform Cameroon’s new generation of music to world class with an international recognition, but failed to do so. This is when Stanley won the MTV Africa Music Awards in 2014 as Best New Act, as he had the attention he deserved and he could have used his influence more.
It’s obvious that we have grown to not see the positive side of Alenne’s message but focus on what is controversial, and in the end, ‘painting the frame black‘ to suit narratives. Many even labeled Alenne’s outburst as him being “jealous.”
So our question is, Why would Alenne Menget be “jealous” of Stanley Enow?
Alenne is established and people say he is one of the “richest” actors in the Cameroonian industry (we need to investigate his net worth to support this, but for the purposes of this article, we will assume he is doing financially well given the phlethora of work has had done as an actor). His contributions to the industry is unquestionable and he’s done his part. If Stanley did what Tzy is doing now, he’d arguably be the richest artist of his generation.
However, it didn’t happen in that regard, but yet again, he’s been nominated for the same award and here’s still another opportunity for him to make amends. He’s likely to win again, being nominated with other African icons like Fally Ipupa, Inoss B, just to name a few makes the competition tight, but we are confident he’ll walk home with it. So what’s the way forward?
We are looking forward to Stanley picking up other promising artists, even if signing them isn’t possible, putting them on the spotlight would be beneficial to himself, the artists and the industry. To whom more is given, more is expected.
Let’s stop thinking every opinion people give is aimed at downgrading others. The industry will only move to the right direction with honest criticism and the possible suggestions for betterment.
