We are gradually exiting 2021, and as such, we can’t act like the year has been all a good one for the Cameroonian music industry, it’s been for the Nigerian though. In Cameron, there are a few artists who made big moves this year and you could name them.
Some of them include, Ko-c , Tzy Panchak , Salatiel , Mr. Leo – Artist , Mic Monsta Official , etc! While some seemingly established artists were making big moves, there were a few upcoming artists who didn’t slumber… Some of those who made noticeable moves and are independent could include Kitz237 Miracle Pikin | Lill humble | Young Holiday | Ulanda | Chindo just to name a few.
As a matter of fact, this year has witnessed the highest number of breakups, between Music/Record labels and artists, with some choosing to go Solo! In fact, the Cameroonian comedy industry overshadowed the music industry by a mile… We’re not looking forward to that kind of industry next year, where many want to eat, with little or no work done! (whether labels or artists)
Many artist need to be sure about what they are signing up for, and record labels equally need to avoid promising things they can’t provide an artist, simply because they need the artist’s signature, based on their potentials. Labels mostly promise artists a running-over-cup, based on their anticipation of what the artist could garner them!
Noticeably, most artists, before signing for most record labels tend to forget that their careers are first, their own responsibility. Though upcoming, but look the way the young artists sited above treat their careers. Look at the energy they put in their careers.
However, most of the artists signed to or under a music umbrella, tend to abandon everything to their teams, which are not sometimes effective. They however, forget that relating and creating a one-on-one relationship with most social media users is one step to increasing their relevance and fan base. Have you ever asked yourself why most labels are not scared to let some artists go, especially female ones ?
Let us burst your bubble, because funny enough, most of them always just exit because they’re fed up with what’s not yet coming, and have no backup plans. They’ve barely learned anything while in the label that was doing everything for them, like social media management, tour bookings just to name a few! Most of them go MIA when they exit, Because only during these times, do they get to understand what it takes to invest in themselves! Ziiana Nation aka has got some attitudes of a winner.
Signed to BGC Melody , in the later part of 2021, she has been doing backstage work, and she’s always trying to push her own career, even though her team is doing most of the work, but she still isn’t staying with her hands akimbo. Liya , though not independent, has some of those qualities of a future successful artist, always engaging and relating with her fans and supporters.
As an artist, always remember that no matter what, your career will always remain in your responsibility. Know when you say no! But it can always be done amicably!!
