The outbreak of the Corona virus has put the world in a state of uncertainty. While people continue to fear the continuous spread of the virus, most countries including Cameroon have been hostage and have been facing a lock down.
Fans of the entertainment industry in Cameroon have been mounting pressure on their stars on social media to support them during the difficult time but they have so far had no response from them.
Most Artists and superstars worldwidehave been chipping in to support their communities but why are Cameroonian stars quiet? Are they broke or they are just selfish? random questions being asked by many.
Looking at the show business In a growing industry like Cameroon’s, one could be led to think that most artists/stars are not there yet to start pumping out huge sums of money especially during this period, but it is also fair to say that nothing is small.
No one is expecting them to donate 10million CFA to fight Corona virus as that would even be the biggest scare of our time, a Cameroonian artists single handedly giving out 10 million. That will be a miracle.
Reading through many platforms, suggestions had it that maybe the artists/stars don’t want to support the fight because they have not been receiving support from the government.
That will be crazy as they don’t need to support their fans because of the government.
While the government didn’t support them, fans did, so should that be enough reason why they are staying mute?
How do these artists even give back to their community? going to orphanages? a record label like New Bell Music owned by Jovi is giving back to the community through the #MbokoGang movement and he been active sensitising and donating face masks to the population. Which other label even has a foundation to give back ?
#EnergyGang led by Tembu Daniel who’s an artist and comedian at the Same time has pledged to give 500,000CFA to support the fight and he’s not to be compared to some “A list” artists, so what is the excuse?
There is a common saying that when there is a will, there is a way. If the celebrities wish to support in anyway, they can still do, that Is if they want.
Movie star, Syndy Emade through her foundation has contributed immensely to community building and that could also be said about Embi Foundation of Stephanie Tum as well as Charifa Republic powered by Alimma Charifa.
Considering all these things, the only thing that can best be said is that most Cameroonian artist are not just willing to donate. That can give the little they have if they want to.
If one artist were to make a move now, many would follow, but who will?
In a nutshell, there is not just a will to support, not like there is no way.
