There is really no doubt about how talented Fhishofficial is, and that he’s the new vibe in the Cameroonian industry. Knowing the impact Longue longue officiel has brought in 237 as a whole and the shots he’s taken for the culture, we can therefore not simplify the impact of this collaboration. A new school artist featuring an old school artist in this era is overlooked by many but it only means linking two generations together. This is one of a kind collaboration in recent times in the industry but does it merit being labelled the “collabo of the year?”
Personal Opinion…
When Fhish released “Koro-Koro” in 2019, the first person whom i found qualified to step on for a remix of that song was Longue Longue. This is because of the message of the song and how this song could go far beyond just the Anglophone community. The song which addresses societal ills needed an ancestral touch and no one has been able to do it better than the latter. Longue Longue has over the years always closed the gap that existed between two industries (Anglophone & Francophone)
Fhish holding the bull by the horn and daring to release Koro koro did an excellent job with the piece. When he announced that his Ep was available and would feature Longue Longue, iwas expecting the remix of Koro koro but he pulled out a brand new track titled “Njoh”. Njoh is a perfect street jam, a great song still addressing street and societal issues and to crown it, it is a club bangar too, but i still feel a remix of Koro Koro or another song with a message similar would have had more impact than Njoh. However, the attention and reviews the “Njoh” has been getting has made many label it the best collabo of the year. We have had some exciting pieces of music in 2020 too, so what makes “Njoh” the best in 2020? I mean, Magasco has pulled an incredible one with Lady Ponce too so you might get the memo.
Away from whether Njoh is the best in 2020 or not, the official video has been released and just one week after its release, the video has already recorded over 88k views on YouTube with over 800 comments – this is just one week after the video release (Progress). This goes a long way to say how much people had anticipated this track. The comments on Youtube from across Africa are inspiring and those of happy fans. video is directed by #Chuzih , who’s known for his unique story telling dynamics with visuals. The video features Danny Green FreshKing as vixen who does perfectly what he was told to do – playing the part of the prophet with some captivating emotions and faints, since the song talks a lot about spiritual healing and what Fhishrepresents as an artist. There is also a display of a masquerade (Nkoh) and it’s really not clear what the director wants to tell using this particular #juju (story for another time). The jam is a hit no doubts and we know hit songs have barely had perfect videos but can we say the same about this piece? You decide that!
The only thing we can’t ignore is the tremendous work Fhish and ATM Entertainment have put in and how far they will go. Now after Longue Longue what next? We know Fhish wants to do it differently and he’s accepted that he’s a new “Kid in the game” but he’s proving beyond just a kid. Fhish has succeeded to get hold of a new management team and his career has taken a fast turn and no Longer dramatic, the future is increasingly bright. As to whether this collabo is the best of the year, that’s all left to you to decide in the comment sections.
