DAPHNE RELEASES HER FIRST OF TWO SONG’S AND VIDEO’S CALLED “NE LACHES PAS” AND HERE IS WHAT WE THINK ABOUT THE SONG
Earlier this week, THJ announced that singer Daphne would be releasing two new songs and videos on January 31st. The wait is over as Steven’s Music (Daphne’e record label) has just released the video for “Ne Lâches pas“. The video was directed by Nkeng Stephens aka “We Take Another Shot” and is a slower tempo than what we will expect to hear from her second song called Alleluia said to be released later today.
Ne Lâches pas which means “Don’t let go” is a beautiful song that has a soft and groovy melody. The song which is sang mostly in English and some French, is quite meaningful and with a message to those who pay attention to its lyrics. It is a song where Daphne seems to subtly reflect on her journey in life so far hinting that life hasn’t not always been a smooth ride and it comes with hurdles. It is a song with catchy lyrics that we are sure speaks to her fans and will resonate well with them. The message in the song comes at a good time as the song encourages people to no let go which we can interpret as to not let go of your dreams, or of what you stand for, or what you are fighting for in life if it means something valuable to you. Given that many of her fans are from Cameroon (as well as other African countries) where there is political turmoil and instability which has led to a lot of disparity and despair among many, the song is a reminder that we should not let go of who we are as a people.
However, way you choose to interpret the song, we’re sure it will have a positive meaning regardless. In the case of Daphne, she might be singing about herself, how she did not let go of her dream of pursuing a successful music career and despite the hurdles in life, she stood up tall and kept on running towards her dreams and you should too. We see this when she sings:
Alway’s expect the worst in life, sometimes you fall,
you gotta crawl, don’t stay down,
Hold on tight to the beast inside,
stand up tall and you walk and you run, run
She later continues her verse by singing that “Every move that you make should be worth it, that’s how you never go down and that is life…”. The video is simple with clear visuals (very classic of Dr. Nkeng Stephens) and it shows Daphne at her simplest. Our favorite scene is of her on the motorcycle driving though the busy streets and seeing life as it really is. Let’s not spoil this for you!
