“Dead Serious” is a compelling Nollywood film that navigates the complexities of love, family, and sacrifice. Directed by Emem Inwang, the movie introduces viewers to a young woman torn between two suitors: a wealthy yet unpleasant man favored by her father, and a compassionate shop owner named Sabinus.
As the story unfolds as viewers witness the protagonist’s struggle to follow her heart despite familial pressures. Ultimately, she chooses love over financial security, opting to marry Sabinus, who consistently demonstrates kindness and affection towards her.
Tragically, the protagonist’s life is cut short by a fatal accident on her way to purchase a cake for their wedding. Sabinus, devastated by her untimely death, dives into despair and attempts to take his own life multiple times. However, each suicide attempt isn’t successful, and at last, there’s a moment of divine intervention when he receives a call from his late wife while on the brink of drowning. Out of joy, he still falls in the water but luckily he’s rescued and the wedding pushes on.
The film features a talented cast including Nkem Owoh, Sharon Ooja, Nasboi, Oluwatoyin Albert Tomama, Lilian Afegbai, and Deyemi Okanlawon, “Dead Serious” is a must-watch for fans of Nigerian cinema seeking a riveting and emotionally resonant experience.
