While many people fancy traveling to popular countries like the United States, France, Germany, Britain and more for greener pastures, very few people often mention countries like Luxembourg in their considerations.
Shockingly, this country is considered to be one of the wealthiest countries in the world at large, and the wealthiest in the European Union in particular. It is also one of the richest countries in the world. Here are some things you should know about Luxemberg:
● Luxembourg is the wealthiest country in the European Union, per capita, and its citizens enjoy a high standard of living. It is a major center for large private banking, and its finance sector is the biggest contributor to its economy. The country’s main trading partners are Germany and France.
● Luxembourg, is the only country in the whole world that offers its citizens with free public transport. Yes, for free!
In 2020, Luxembourg had the highest car density in the EU, that is 696 per 1,000 people versus the average 560. The country suffers from bad traffic and high levels of climate-heating emissions as a result of many vehicles. The introduction of free transportation helps to reduce traffic as many citizens see no need to use personal cars.
● Luxembourg is the least populated European country with a population of about 660,809 people according to 2023 stats. Most of the country’s population is reportedly made up of foreigners.
● Its capital city is Luxembourg City and is largest city in the country with approximately 110,000 inhabitants making it the country’s most populated city.
● Luxemberg has three official languages, with Luxembourgish being its main language. The other two are French and German. Nonetheless, other languages like Portuguese and English are also widely spoken, given that the country has many foreigners who reside and work there.
● Luxembourg’s official currency used to be the Luxembourg Franc (LUF) which later became obsolete in 2002 when it was officially replaced by Euro.
If you consider traveling to a European country, Luxembourg should be one of the locations you should have in mind as it is one of those countries many don’t notice or talk about, however it is filled with a lot of history and sites to visits that will give you a great touristic experience.
