THJ: As an African artist living abroad away from your comfort zone, what obstacles have you faced in the music industry in order to get yourself better recognized and listened to by both Africans and non-African people?
BeingNgang: Actually, I am pretty comfortable over here. I like where I am at in life. I have had many non-African people come up to me saying “Unonome oh!” . I guess my personality is what helps me get recognized.
THJ: Name 1 African artist and 1 Cameroonian artist whose music style inspire you and your music and why?
BeingNgang: For an African artist, Black Coffee inspires me. For a Cameroonian, I would say Jovi. However, I am not a huge fan of the last EP he just put out.
THJ: Name 2 musicians you would like to do a collaboration with and why?
BeingNgang: If Kanye west could bring back his 2000 groove, I would like to make a song with him. And in Cameroon, ironically, I really just want to be signed by any of the local record labels. I think I could bring so much more to the table, add some value, and help push the culture tremendously. So Motherland Empire, Alpha Better Records, Bboy, Stevens Music Entertainment, Bluenation and so forth hit me up and make this hobby into a career. I have so much more in store.
THJ: The Cameroonian Music Industry is rising fast and Cameroon has developed their own celebrities that have a huge following and are doing very well for Cameroonian standards. Some of these artists are Daphne, Stanley Enow, Jovi, Charlotte Dipanda, Locko, Mr. Leo and Tenor to name a few.
- What do you as a US based artist think about the fact that they seem to e more respected musically and get asked to perform more abroad than Cameroonian artists who live in the diaspora?
BeingNgang: Most of us that live abroad do not do music full time. Also, I think if any of the artist here in America would focus more on relating with their background, they will be respected too.
THJ: What do you want your fans or potential fans to know about you?
BeingNgang: I intend to explore every gift or talent that God has blessed me with.
THJ: Now that we know more about you and your music, we would like to get to know a little bit more about your fashion and general lifestyle because most photo’s that we’ve seen on your Instagram page shows a mix of fashion and food (around vegan living)….
