During an urgent meeting convened by FECAFOOT on Thursday, May 30th, 2024, the Federation met with Marc Brys to chart a path forward. The announcement of Marc Brys as the official head coach brought joy to over 28 million Cameroonians, signaling a return to calm after the meeting.
Present at the press conference was Samuel Eto’o, who started by apologizing to the coach for a disagreement that occurred on Wednesday, May 29th, 2024. The press conference lasted for approximately 16 minutes at the FECAFOOT headquarters, proceeding smoothly without any interruptions this time. As he welcomed the coach, Samuel Eto’o said,
“…I’ll start by presenting my apologies because; for our first unfortunate meeting, emotions were high…”
He reassured the coach that the working conditions would be good. He also mentioned how the administration’s past involvement in football activities sometimes affected the Federation’s working conditions.
Indomitable Lions Coach Marc Brys reacts to Samuel Eto’o’s apology:
“Mr. President, many thanks for your words. It is much appreciated. We had a very good interview, I can say that. And that’s completely normal because we have the same goal. This is the most important for millions of Cameroonians. This puts a little strain on our work. If we come together, the work will be less difficult. We have less than 2 weeks until the match. We will do everything, we need all the experiences to succeed. This is not the job of one or two people. It’s group…” – says Marc Brys
The interim coaches, previously appointed by FECAFOOT and who had resigned earlier, have been reinstated, but will now only serve as assistants to the head coach. Mr. Disake, representing the Ministry of Sports (MINSEP), played a crucial role in the spontaneous meeting.
Unless stated otherwise, Cameroon will encounter Cape Verde on June 8th, with the roster published by Marc Brys remaining unchanged.
