The 2nd quarter of 2018 has started of with a bang as we are seeing more and more collabo’s between Cameroonian and Nigerian artists with Mr. Leo doing his remix for ‘Jamais Jamais’ featuring Flavour and now Charlotte Dipanda has her new song called Sista featuring Yemi Alade! If you haven’t yet watched this video and/or listened to the’ Sista’ song then you have to. Here four reasons why everyone should love ‘Sista’:
1. The lyrics (see below for lyrics) and video itself are so beautiful on so many levels as it about sisterhood and sisterly love. Being there for one another and having each others back are the main theme to this beautiful song. The lyrics and video combo show’s an obvious message which are powerful and meaningful with the take away message as earlier mentioned being sisterly love as well highly needed for our youths today (unlike many songs that are basically just bla bla bla with nothing to learn from and the only thing you can remember is how sexy the women were in the video or how little they wore). 2. It celebrates and embraces the African culture. These are the kind of videos we love to see as it also shows that cultural appeal as it shows black women and African women as a whole celebrating their African Heritage. It shows the diversity of Africa… here you have Yemi and Charlotte singing in two different languages that intertwine so effortlessly and still bring you the message intended.
3. This ‘Sista’ Video which has a clear message also . You might notice that Charlotte and Yemi each had three different outfits in which for each out they were both color coordinated. This ‘Sista’ Video which has a clear message also seemed to be very carefully thought off and put together from the various scenes to the fashion and style. You might notice that Charlotte and Yemi each had three different outfits in which for each out they were both color coordinated.
4. The visuals did not disappoint with an eclectic and Afrocentric feel with use of body art and good use of African prints and African accessories makes the video more relate able as it is not over the top. Also the video setting seems like it is supposed to depict a normal everyday neighborhood in a typical inner city neighborhood in Africa with ladies being ladies in their natural setting. The video was directed by Paul Gambit. There is no doubt that this song will be a hit and will resonate well amongst the African music lovers, women and even men who glorify the African woman and from the comments left on Charlotte Dipanda’s YouTube page, there is no doubt that this collabo was very well received! Watch and share the video!
