Today we are putting the spotlight on comedian Tembu Daniel whose brand has been gradually growing and gaining momentum across Africa.
Comedian Tembu Daniel, pseudonym 237 Towncryer has made a name for himself by his signature “crying and crying face” and by putting smiles on many people’s faces.
Nowadays, he might be living the his dream life and it’s important to highlight that this dream life is one he has worked for relentlessly.
Before becoming one of the leading comedians today in his country, Cameroon, he needed to turn water into wine, wash his hands well before dining with the elders beyond Cameroon.
Despite having a science background, Tembu Daniel has always had an unquenchable passionate for arts and entertainment, a field he has battled tremendously in, to have his name well-rooted.
From the streets of Bamenda in the early years, Tembu Daniel adopted the stage name, DannyGreen FreshKing. Even though he was a talented and uprising rapper, he also had a burning drive for comedy. It can’t be debated that he devoted more time and energy towards his music career, while complementing it with comedy but the comedy career has opened more doors for him than music ever would!
While many would relate to how determined he has always been to succeed, his comedy career has swept everyone off their feet and he’s only gaining more and more grounds as days go by.
Before becoming the Towncryer he is today, he had to battle his way to the top. He got into several scandals and backlashes that could have dissolved a low self-esteemed mind, but he held his head high and kept going even if it meant going alone, then one faithful day, his comedy was shared by popular Nigerian promotor’s and influencers like Tunde Ednut and music mogul and music hit maker Don Jazzy. Since that time, the rest has been history!
He has been “adopted” by one of Africa’s biggest music moguls, Don Jazzy, as one of his sons, and has plugged himself in the Nigerian comedy industry so firmly that he now “looks like one of them”, but knowing where he’s from and where he’s headed, he has not slowed down with standing up for his country, Cameroon, especially for the vulnerable Anglophone population and entertainers when many issues of marginalization are not being addressed.
He is always either seen doing activism with his comedy or using his platform to advocate for a better “Cameroon” or Africa. A few days ago in the city of Douala, he was seen sweeping the streets, while passing a pertinent message to fellow citizens urging them to not only blame the government without taking their own responsibilities as citizens.
237 Towncryer has come a long way and his success should be a motivation to many young entertainers. From music, to selling T-shirts Nationwide, to becoming a household comedian in Africa, is a story we can’t overlook.
As difficult as it gets to amass a huge following on the Cameroonian social media space, he has been able to garner over 300,000 followers (as of the time of this write-up) on his Facebook page, in less than no time.
