The importance of gospel music cannot be overemphasized nowadays. Preaching the word of God sometimes is easier with Psalms and hymns. Evangelism has also been very much fascinated by music. There has been expressive modernization in the music, especially with the rise of digitalization in the industry and the gospel sector has not been left out.
Modernization bought about branding and Showbiz, which in one way or the other made many artists and singers lose originality and credence. It is however very difficult to identify the sound of most artists in this era, as most singers are just out to pursue the fame and other trends or rewards from their craft.
Despite the increase in modernization, there is still a lot of hope in the African gospel scenes when you take a vivid restrospect at some legendary Gospel musicians/minsters. There is a gross difference between a gospel minister and a gospel artist. A gospel minister has it all, like the artistry and the grace to revamp and convert through a spirit led ministration. Whereas a gospel artist or musician has little of such, they can just sing and song with limits.
They are just about the music and always incapable of taking people to the spiritual realm. It’s very easy to differentiate between a minister and artist nowadays. Many call themselves or force themselves to become ministers nowadays, but if grace doesn’t abound, they are just empty incarnates branded for a particular marketing purpose.
