On this edition of Gospel Ministers Across Africa, where we connect you with the African Gospel community who most at times are left out of the spotlight, let’s take a look at some top gospel tunes gaining grounds across the continent and beyond. Our focus today will be on Nigerian minister Victor Thompson from Nigeria, Ruth Wayumu from Kenya and H_Art also from Kenya.
1. Reverend Ruth Wamuyu:
Ruth Wayumu is a powerhouse contributor to the Kenyan gospel music ‘sphere’ and has been in that arena for several years. Besides being a mother, she is a woman of God, one aspect that makes her art distinct from other Gospel ministers. With Kenya being one of the most productive countries as far as Gospel music is concerned, she has an energy that is unique. She’s a press and worship icon and one of the highly streamed Kenyan ministers.

2. Victor Thompson:
Nigerian gospel music needs little or no emphasis as it has gradually secured its place comfortably in the continent. With a plethora of multi-talented and productive artists, there are just as many relevant names you can site from this part of the continent. For Thompson who has been putting in work in the past years, 2023 has been a beautiful year for him and his team as he’s been trending back-to-back for very good and transformational content. His hit track “This Year” has been topping the charts and imparting lives. It can be named as one of the most trending gospel tunes which has amassed over 13 million in just over 10 months.

3. H_Art the Band:
H_Art the Band is a Kenyan music band, made up of three ambitious and talented young gospel ministers. Their work for the Kenyan Gospel ministry as a band has been tremendous and it is no wonder that they are not missed when mentioning modern day artists, who are making an impact on the continent with their craft. H_Art the Band is an Afro Soul boy band originating from Nairobi, Kenya.
The band consists of three artists namely Wachira Gatama, Kenneth ‘Kenchez’ Muya and Mordecai Mwini. They all hail from Kayole, a neighbourhood in the Eastlands area of Nairobi. Many of H_art The Band’s Songs became very popular and trendy on social media in line with a great number of streaming and downloads on Boomplay. The three members of the band met at the Kenya National Theatre while participating in a stage play about cancer awareness in 2012.
They later on formed the H_Art Band officially in early 2013. The band secured a record deal with Penya Records in 2013 and without much delay, released their debut single titled Uliza Kiatu in mid-2014. The band boasts of nearly a total of 3 Million Boomplay streams and a whooping total of 38.2 Million streams on their YouTube page. H_Art the Band currently has two full-length studio albums.
