Yesterday, Empire Company record label singer MIMIE, via a press release announced that she is no longer going to be part of a label she has been signed to for five years. While this has been trending, rapper Jovi has indirectly been sipping from his well of expertise.
Melanie Ngoga, artistically known as Mimie, signed to Empire Company five years ago, and based on the press release issued by her lawyer in yesterday’s media briefing, Mimie’s contract expired on July 12, 2022 and after assessing her career so far, she didn’t find it worthwhile to renew or extend it.
As a result of her reluctance to extend her contract, Empire without any intentions of letting the artist go, decided to take legal action against the artist who also clapped-back with an immediate press release to clear the air.
After Magasco left Empire a few years ago, Mimie became the main face of the record label e for the past three years. She has been on a rampage as her career has only gotten better.
It’s quite unclear to music lovers why Empire doesn’t want to let her go despite her contract expiration, but it should be noted that the issue Mimie is having is not the first as far as aforementioned company is concerned.
Many artists have risen to prominence via this company and have experienced both the good and the bad. Even though the bad seems to have swallowed more attention than the good, and while many have been caught in between the sticks of who was wrong between Empire and it’s former signees (who by the way have always exited in dramatic fashion), Mimie’s current situation might just be shining more light on the previous fallouts thus far.
Reactions to Mimie’s release by fellow colleagues/artists, shockingly uncovered a lot of contractual drama that other artists have been enduring in their respective record labels, but haven’t had the courage to strike the rod.
Any reply could have been considered normal (maybe), but one reply that caught our attention was Daphne Njie’s who didn’t hide her emotions but made it obvious with her comment under Mimie’s post that there’s more to her not releasing music nor do we know if she is still with Steven’s Music Entertainment as no press release has been made public to make us to think otherwise. However, the lack of any music release from Daphne in over two and a half years is quite questionable. What is her record label Stevens Music Entertainment waiting for?
Anyway, going back to Mimi, there’s no doubt that Empire has given many artists the spotlight and the attention. We can name artists like Magasco, Mimie, Ridimz to name a few, who became really popular under the umbrella of Empire, but their exit shows that popularity might not have been enough for them. Whether it was enough or not can only be assessed based on contractual terms that abound.
This has again revoked the feud between Pit Baccardi and Jovi. It should be recalled that Jovi has always called out Pit for his unscrupulous and exploitative tendencies. This was even more alarming in 2015 when Pit snatched Magasco from Jovi back then. It should be noted that Jovi tried to school Magasco in 2015 in an attempt that failed woefully.
Magasco was trapped in the moment and his departure to Empire completely damaged his relationship with Jovi, which has never been stitched to date. Jovi swore never to forgive Magasco and tweets from 2015 where Magasco called out Jovi as “disrespectful” and a “disgrace…” went a long way to put him in JOVI’s dark books for good!
From Maahlox to Valsero to Pit Baccardi, Jovi has always stood against their ways. However, on the contrary, Jovi has always been regarded as the bad egg, especially by most of his fellow anglophone colleagues, who have always been made to understand that the New Bell Music Boss was blocking the roads of other artists.
While at Empire, Mimie has always been in good terms with Jovi, and that involves her engaging in Vizu’s posts as well as Vizu always sharing her posts. For those who do not know, Vizu is an artist under JOVI’s wings. Jovi’s relationship with Pit never for once intimidated MIMIE per se!
Was this a hint that she knew Jovi to be the real one despite…? Les choses à vérifier!
Tenor’s post – “Jovisionnaire” (Jovisionary) as in Jovi the visionary was just like a confirmation of a prophecy and his post was enough to confirm that Jovi had been right all along. Howbeit that many francophone artists agree with Jovi to this extent but his Anglophone colleagues barely do?
It’s fair to say that Mimie’s exit from Empire has confirmed that Jovi is that smart and that people only need time to see more. The music business tips Jovi shared as far back as 2015, is something many still have not understood and it has continued to hunt them.
