Just Room Enough Island, also called Hub Island, is a small island in the Thousand Islands chain in the St. Lawrence River. It is located in New York, United States. The island is famous for being the smallest inhabited island in the world, measuring about 3,300 square feet (310 square meters), which is around one-thirteenth of an acre.
History of the Island
In the 1950s, the Sizeland family bought the island as a vacation spot. They built a house that takes up almost all the space on the island. The family also added a tree, some shrubs, and a tiny beach. Because the island only has just enough room for these things, they named it “Just Room Enough Island.”
The house on the island covers nearly the entire land, leaving just a small area for a tree and some plants. There isn’t much extra space for anything else. Despite this, the island is a peaceful and cozy place, offering beautiful views of the river and nearby islands. However, the tiny size means that waves can sometimes wash over parts of the island.
The Thousand Islands chain has more than 1,800 islands of different sizes. Some are large with many homes, while others are tiny, with only a tree or rock. An island in this region must stay above water all year and have at least one tree to be counted as an island.
Just Room Enough Island has become a well-known tourist spot because of its unique size. Visitors come from around the world to see how a house fits on such a small piece of land. The island is often mentioned as one of the world’s most interesting places, and photos of it have become popular.
In a time when people are interested in simple and small living, Just Room Enough Island shows how it’s possible to live with less space. While the island might not suit everyone, it’s a good example of how cozy and peaceful life can be, even in a small place.
Just Room Enough Island is a small but fascinating spot. Its size and story have made it a symbol of living simply and a famous place in the Thousand Islands region. Even though it’s tiny, the island teaches us how to make the most of what we have while enjoying the beauty of nature.
