U.S. swimmer Ryan Lochte, was interviewed by TODAY’s Matt Lauer concerning the recent controversy surrounding the swimmer’s robbery story at the Rio Olympics. This is the first time Lochte addressed the issue, Live on Camera. In the second part of the exclusive interview, he described the incident at a Rio gas station involving himself and three other Olympians’ confrontation with armed guards. He admitted he “was upset,” but added that “there was no reason for a gun to be pulled out.” He also said “I let my team down” and “I’m embarrassed for myself, my family” and especially his three teammates.
Last Friday, the 12-time Olympic medalist posted an apology to Instagram and Twitter, writing that he was sorry for his “role in taking the focus away from the many athletes fulfilling their dreams of participating in the Olympics.”
He went on to write that he “should have been much more responsible in how I handled myself,” and mentioned that he would have released the apology sooner, but was waiting until three of his teammates, also involved in the incident, were allowed to return to the U.S.

What do you think? Is his apology convincing enough?
