Steven Spielberg has revealed that he vouches for British actor Idris Elba in the race to be the next James Bond. The highly celebrated movie-director behind box-office movies such as Saving Private Ryan, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, and Jaws has been tipped as the next director for the Bond’s franchise as former director Sam Mendes stepped down after directing two Bond movies.
“I am a huge Bond fan,” Steven Spielberg told the Express. “I would love to see a Bond of colour. That would be my first choice. I think Idris would be my first choice of Bond if Daniel decides not to come back.”
MGM Studios are currently trying to woo Daniel Craig back for the next Bond film after he told executives he was “done”. They have pushed back a planned release for next year to 2018 to give themselves more time.
When asked about taking on the role, Idris Elba last week claimed he was “too old” to follow on from Craig. He said : “I’m really honest, man, I think I’m too old for that. I can’t be running around in cars and ladies and martinis – who wants to do that? It sounds terrible!”
Other male stars linked to take over from Craig include Tom Hiddleston, Aidan Turner, Tom Hardy, and Damian Lewis.
What do you think? Will Idris Elba make the perfect Bond or is he too old for the job as he says ?
