IMPACT COLLABOS OF 2020
We are gradually moving out of 2020 and even if we say the year was rough, we can equally strike out some fun, and impactful moments in the entertainment industry. Some have been door openers while others gave been destiny enhancers.
A lot of changes have occurred and the narrative continues to change as the days go by. Taking a retrospective view in the Cameroonian music industry, it will be fair to accept the level of growth already. The industry is growing, even if not geometrically, but gradually.
We are already in the festive periods and here we are savoring and vibing to Cameroonian music like never before. The last decade was hardly so. By now, Ivorian and Nigerian content would be dominating the whole place. However, it seems the energy driven towards growth and consuming “Cameroon” is gradually paying off.
A few “impact collabos” of the year have been pivotal in driving unity and growth in the two Industries (francophone & anglophone). This generation of artists seem to have discovered how to break lose. As a matter of fact, we might be seeing more and more collaborative works if the atmosphere remains favorable.
Working with older artists before now was almost non-existent.
Artists like Fhish who came out with his hit single called Njoh, Ko-c who released Caleçon and Magasco with his Nyang Nyang remix have all pulled in some big ones this year, collaborating with veteran singers like Longue Longue, Coco Argentée and Lady Ponce respectively. The importance of these collabos cannot be overemphasized. It’s been hit after hit, and the street vibe has been mind-blowing.
From a business perspective, Ko-c might just be the biggest winner among all. Numbers don’t lie or do they? Ko-c is a born hit maker. In fact he’s known for spewing hits, but the rate reception for Caleçon is what we haven’t seen in the industry. The song currently stands at 4 million views in less than 3 months. Meanwhile, Ko-c’s success doesn’t limit the smartness of Fhish and Magasco who increased their relevance by also breaking into the Francophone industry.
Caleçon featuring Coco Argentée:
“Njoh” by Fhish featuring Longue Longue records over 500,000 views, the highest so far in Fhish’s career. This can most likely be attributed to the song being flavorful as well as Longue Longue attracting his large Francophone fanbase to watch the video.
Njoh featuring Longue Longue:
Magasco who can be credited as the most consistent artist in 2020 all round invited Lady Ponce for a “Nyang Nyang Remix” and the song is almost at a million views.
Nyang Nyang Remix featuring Lady Ponce:
Now, can we settle with the fact that more cllabos between the two industries is a big step to curbing out foreign content?
