This write-up might not rhyme with you but let’s try to reason together. It is really funny how almost every artists is turning to controversy to gain attention.
It would not be strange for artists who started their careers as such (with controversy) to keep on pulling through with it, but it becomes disturbing when artists who have been getting attention without controversy begin to think that they must be controversial to get that same attention and support that they are no longer getting.
For an artist like Meshi, whom many say she’s underrated, it becomes a call for concern. Meshi in my opinion is not as underrated as it appears. There are some well to do artists who are barely spoken about but they are doing extremely well and she’s one of those. It is true that she fell off the pecking order for sometime but this is not because she’s not talented but because i think she might have been trying to switch lanes when she was getting that attention.
Weeks ago, she pulled a stunt before releasing her song “Marry” and you can tell she had the media talking about her for days, but how did that influence the release? Well, she got the attention of people whose minds are more focused on bad energy but how many of them actually shared the song when it was released?
Signed to Zion Records, Meshi has been impressive and the streaming platforms says so. She’s one of those young artists who has had the opportunity to work with some big names in the industry. All these didn’t come with faking attention but for some reason, she’s succumbed fans pressure and love for controversy.
Who is to blame, fans or the artists?
This is the base of the write-up. Apparently, the fans might have to take more responsibility for this. It is clear that as a fan, you recharge your bundles to come online and have fun and as such, you choose or decide what you wish to vibe to but sometimes, let’s be honest, Our love for controversy has blinded us and the love for it is making artists, especially those hard working artists to believe that they must be controversial to gain our attention.
If the works of these artists are somehow given attention and concise criticisms, they will do better and won’t need to go below standards to stay on key.
On the other hand, most artists need to understand that the music-sphere is quite big and is subsequently growing bigger, and other young artists are coming up. Therefore, you don’t have to go off or stay inactive for the time you desire and just come in whenever you want thinking you’d get the same attention. Understanding your fans and interacting with them even when you are not dropping music will do you some good. Blanche Bailly is currently doing this as she focuses on child birth.
For something to change, the artists and fans must work hand in hand. The artists showing respect for fans and fans showing respect for artists’ works and they might not need pull a stunt every time to feel relevant.
In a nutshell, Meshi has retired after dropping her latest song after five years. Congratulations and the industry definitely applauds her input.
