Jay-z Becomes World’s Richest Rapper As His Net Worth Doubles

Shawn Carter, popularly known as Jay-Z, has more than doubled his net worth in a year.

Forbes reported that the “Run This Town” hitmaker’s net worth was $2.5 billion, making him not only the richest rapper alive but the 1,210th wealthiest person according to Forbes. Sean Carter, the guy who was once the little boy from the streets of Marcy, Brooklyn, built a fortune through his music and several business ventures.

One of Jay-z’s biggest business ventures to date is his purchase of the music streaming platform Tidal in 2016 in partnership with his wife Beyonce, Rihanna and a few of his peers. He later sold his stake for $302 million to Jack Dorsey, the owner of the mobile payment company Square.
