It seems like Nigeria aka Naija has some sort of a magnet that draws a lot of musicians from around the world to them- particularly African American singers… and these are not just your average bo-Joe’s either!! I’m talking about major Grammy Award winning singers!!
Since December, we have seen an influx of American (and other international) celebrities such as Brandy Norwood, Kelly Rowland from Destiny’s Child and now Grammy Award nominated R&B singer and songwriter Keisha Cole going to Naija for one promotion or the other. So what are these Naija people doing that brings all thee singers to their land? “Ah’beg Cameroonians need to get their entertainment act together and be inspired by this! I’m yet to see a major artist come to Cameroon. The last one I can remember (and excuse my fuzzy memory) was Stevie Wonder back in the 90’s and we talked about it for years!! Ok I’m done thinking out loud! So where was I again?
Yes – OK so Keisha Cole arrived Nigeria a couple of days ago to join a line-up of other local and international artists for the Calabar International Jazz Festival scheduled to run from April 18th-21st. Keisha will perform along with Nigerian Artist Asa who also performed at the 2013 Calabar International Jazz Festival. Other artists include South African artists such as Hugh Masekela, Jimmy Dludlu, Liquideep and Micasa Music, US artist Timotha Lanae and Gwyn Jay Allen from UK. Other local artists include Yinka Davies, Dare Art Alade and Kunle Ayo.
So if you are a smooth Jazz, R&B and/or sweet soul music lover, then yu should save this date April 18th-21st, 2014 to attend this festival and please come back to THE HOTJEM blog and share your experience! However I highly doubt people will fly from the US to Naija only to see Keisha perform but then again…
