A young woman has caused an uproar on social media after taking to her social media handles to explain to her fans, the main reason why she chose changed her name on all her official documents.
Identified as Bee Dominique, she explains that she used to bear “Morris” which is her father’s name. Dut to the fact that her father wasn’t in her life physically from childhood, she kept the name despite not really liking it.
She further explains that her father returned into her life not long ago but didn’t make any extra effort to catch up for the lost time.
“I legally changed my name today!! But not because of the reasons most people do…
I’ve had my biological father’s last name since birth… some of you know I just met the man a year and a half ago. He was in my life a few years when I was young… and even after meeting him he’s still not made much effort to be in my life, but that was for self healing…. I didn’t expect much from him after all this time” – she said.
She has confirmed to her fans, and followers that her name has been officially changed. She added that,
“As of today though I can let that name go! I can stop the feeling of my stomach turning when they call out “Ms. Morris” because I’ve never had attachment to that name…. I have no Morris family… Meeting him was the first time I had ever been around a Morris…. At one point I hated that name!! I can put my last name on paperwork, media, etc now without having to see a name that’s been hurting me for so long…”
She reiterates, that she may look the same to everyone but she feels like a new woman, a woman that’s healing one day at a time.
“I may look the same to yall but baby I feel like a new woman! A WOMAN that is healing one day at a time. 🙌🏾🙏🏾❤️❤️❤️”
Her post has caused an avalanche of reactions from netizens as many argue, that changing her biological name won’t change anything about who her father is.
Over to you, what do you think about her decision?
