Multi-talented Cameroonian artist Elisha K unveils his second body of work titled ‘DAYS OF ELISHA EPISTLE 2’, featuring seven solid tracks: ‘Shine’, ‘Distraction’, ‘Loyal Jesus’, ‘Since 97’, ‘I Choose You Remix’, ‘Joana Remix’, and ‘Billion Dollar’.
It’s important to note that this is the artist’s second studio project, released just a few months after the first installment, ‘Days of Elisha Epistle 1’. While not a direct sequel, it is certainly a series worth following.
TRACK 1 – “SHINE” – “Motobo nofit compare with braids”
This is rightfully the opening track of the project, and it captivates from the start. This scintillating afrobeats record announces its brilliance within seconds. While we may not know the artist’s personal struggles, this track asserts his moment has arrived, silencing doubters and asserting his unstoppable rise. With Elisha’s talent, hard work, and focus, he’s poised for lasting success. A true superstar and lyrical virtuoso, it’s impressive that he produced the track himself.
TRACK 2 – No Challenger
Listening to this song made me think out loud in pidgin English “I want ask wouna say eh? Na who want push Elisha off the edge with their jaga Jaga bear bear ?” Track two is giving off Rema vibes, seriously… it’s another fantastic afrobeats tune, almost like a continuation of track one. The artist is boldly asserting his greatness and isn’t facing any real challengers. I’m impressed by his confidence; he’s not just talking big online like some people (including me, sadly). He effortlessly puts his thoughts to music, and his vocals deliver the message beautifully. He even calls himself ‘MUKENGE,’ a small ant that bites deep—meaning he can take down giants. He’s also the producer of this track.
TRACK 3 – Since 97 featuring JZYNO
Two musically-gifted African sons, from Cameroon and Liberia respectively, come together and tell us about how they’ve wrestled since 97 to he here now. Don’t think they just blew up over night, it’s a journey since 97. This in my opinion, is arguably the most succesful track of the EP so far. The song isn’t only a beautiful piece that challenges both artists to test their pen-game and vocal dexterity, but it has helped Elisha break into Liberia and Jzyno into Cameroon likewise. This is what collaboration should be about. The producer did justice to the beat. It’s actually addictive!
TRACK 4 – Loyal Judas featuring Loic Sumfor
I don’t know about you, but I expect nothing short of excellence when Elisha K and Loic Sumfor collaborate on a free-flowing Oken song beat. The track begins with mature rumba-guitar instrumentation and seamlessly transitions into an addictive afro soul melody. Both artists are undoubtedly among the best vocalists of their generation, known for their depth and lyrical expressiveness. This track is my favorite so far, and I’ve played it more than any other song on the project.
TRACK 5 – I Choose You Remix featuring Ric Hassani
Track five is a remix of ‘I Choose You’ from Epistle one, featuring Nigerian Afrobeat star Ric Hassani himself, the OG. Those familiar with Elisha’s journey and music will know he has long been inspired by Ric Hassani. This collaboration isn’t just about commercial success; it’s a significant milestone for Elisha and his career. ‘I Choose You’ is a favorite for many because it serves as an affirming anthem you play for your soulmate, reminding them that you’ve chosen them despite any challenges.
TRACK 6 – Billion Dollar
BBNaija winner WhiteMoney once remarked that many women won’t be interested or “roll with you” if you don’t have money. He shared that once he achieved financial success, he could attract almost any woman he desired. Similarly, Elisha echoes this sentiment in his song ‘Billion Dollar.’ The idea that a woman might reject you due to financial concerns reflects the reality that money often plays a significant role in relationships. Elisha brings out his Caribbean influences in this track.
TRACK 7 – Joana featuring King Luca
“Joana” was originally released in Epistle 1, but if you thought it couldn’t get better, listen to King Luca’s verse in this remix. There’s no better way to introduce yourself in a record label you are signed to. Akumba Music is set for an exciting journey with these boys. One thing I’m pondering is King Luca’s age, as his energy and vocal range seem remarkably mature. The label should encourage him to enjoy making music. Given Elisha’s work ethic, he will undoubtedly inspire Luca’s journey.
After listening to Days of Elisha Epistle 2, I must say it surpasses Epistle 1 without question. It is a compelling masterpiece where the artist takes his place in the industry. I admire his boldness, supported by his consistent body of work. I am convinced that this current generation will produce a Grammy-winning artist in this industry.
