In a video that is making its rounds online, during and interview Nigerian superstar and highlife singer Flavour Nabania poured out his frustrations about his country whenh it comes to supporting foreign music. He said Nigeria is “selfish” and is not promoting Africa enough. They promote only their own artists.
Using Tanzanian artist Diamond Platnumz as an example to defend his point on why he thinks, he pointed out that Diamond is one of the biggest artists in Africa with more views on his songs on YouTube than many popular American singers. Yet, in Nigeria, they do not play his songs there. Flavour is not against Nigerians supporting their own.
However based on his point of view, the message seems clear; Nigerians should give credit where credit is due. There is no way Nigerians do not notice that Diamond’s song currently has the highest views on YouTube by an African artists, so why not play it in Nigeria to support him and acknowledge the great work he is doing? It not only shows support of him, it shows that the highest populated African country supports other Africans.
