On December 14, 2020, on the spotlight Nigerian singers Stanley Omah Didia popularly known as Omah Lay were arrested in Uganda alongside his compatriots Temilade Openyi aka Temi and Muyiwa Awoniyi for disrespecting the COVID -19 measures imposed by the country. The Nigerian singers pulled an unwanted crowd according to the country’s statement and they have been in police custody since Monday December 14, 2020 and cannot be released on bail until Wednesday December 16, 2020.
There have been several questions raised, regarding their arrest but the Uganda government seems unconcerned as their mind seemed to be made up for Wednesday. However, social media has gone wild, with users asking why the organizers would risk the lives of artists and not cancel the concert. Others are rather asking how it is the artists’ fault ?
In your opinion what do you think? Is the Ugandan government right to have detained these foreign artists?
