If there’s one thing to know about Tiwa Savage, it should be that she’s fearless. Having been in America at a tender age, she was already earning money from music at age 16, doing background vocals for popular American artists like George Michael, and even accompanied Mary J. Blige during her mini shows.
Tiwa would now fall in love with music, looking to take it to another level, but her parents requested she attended one of the most reputable music school in the world; Berklee School of Music, which she did confirm was the best decision she ever made in her career.
Years after, Tiwa Savage made yet another important decision, one which didn’t only shock her peers and management in America, but one which would go on to cement her place as one of Africa’s best singers and achievers; this was her decision to return to Africa (Nigeria). In her words “My management was not OK with me coming to Nigeria coz they didn’t see the future in Afrobeats”
Since returning to Africa, Tiwa joined the Afrobeat Rollercoaster, a genre of music that is unarguably deserving of its global plaudits. Tiwa came into the Nigerian industry and sailed almost effortlessly. The singer since returning to Nigeria around 2010, has stayed ontop of the patch with mouthwatering results.
Though Tiwa revealed during her Interview on “The Angie Martinez show” that she wouldn’t be fully satisfied until African artists start performing at the Superbowl, she didn’t undermine the process and the achievements that a solidable achievements that afrobeats has garnered.
Tiwa’s S*X tape drama might have rang an unexpected bell, but it should be recorded that her respect in the music industry and Nigeria in particular is undisputed. She is one of the most loved female artists, even by the new generation artists. They call her “Mama”.
Contrary to the popular belief that Icons always want their children to take over them, so their legacy stays afloat, Tiwa who has only a son, expressed her unwillingness to see him in the entertainment industry, saying it gets “dirty” sometimes.
With multiple awards and getting to drop three albums already as well as two Eps, she has cemtented her place undeniably as one of her dreams already realized, was featuring Brandy in her latest project, which came almost three decades since being inspired Brandy.
