Paris Labor Court Orders PSG To Pay Kylian Mbappe €60 Million After Contract Dispute
A French labor court has ruled that Paris St Germain must pay Kylian Mbappe €60m after finding that the club failed to respect key parts of his contract during the final months of his stay in Paris. This decision ends one of the most talked about legal battles in modern soccer involving a superstar player and a powerful European club. The case attracted global attention because of the huge figures involved and because it touched on player rights even at the highest level of the sport.
Mbappe had taken PSG to court after leaving the club, arguing that he was not paid several months of salary and important bonuses that were clearly written into his contract. According to the court, PSG failed to pay his wages between April and June 2024 and also withheld an ethics bonus and a signing bonus. The judges agreed that these payments were owed and ordered the club to settle them. Most of the €60m awarded to Mbappe is believed to be linked to bonuses rather than his basic salary.
Initially, Mbappe was seeking a much larger amount of €263m. This figure included damages he claimed were caused by poor treatment and contract pressure from the club after he refused to extend his deal. PSG strongly rejected those claims and even launched a counter claim of €240m against the player. The club argued that Mbappe’s actions cost them a potential €300m transfer to Saudi club Al Hilal in 2023. However, the court did not support PSG’s position and dismissed the counter claim.
The ruling also confirmed an important legal principle that applies beyond soccer. The judges made it clear that labor law applies equally to all workers including elite athletes earning millions. Mbappe’s legal team welcomed the decision, saying it simply confirmed that contracts must be respected and that unpaid salaries cannot be justified under any circumstance. They also stressed that Mbappe fulfilled all his professional duties until his final day at the club.
Earlier in the dispute, €55m in PSG’s accounts had already been frozen after a request by Mbappe’s lawyers. This move showed how serious the case had become and added pressure on the club while the court reviewed the matter. The final judgment reinforced that action and made the payment obligation official.
PSG responded by saying they respect the court’s decision and will carry it out, while keeping the option to appeal open. In their statement, the club insisted they acted in good faith throughout the situation and said they now want to focus on unity and future success. They also wished Mbappe well in his career, which continues at Real Madrid after he joined the Spanish club on a free transfer.
This case is significant for the soccer world because it sends a strong message to clubs across Europe. Even the biggest teams with global influence can be held accountable if they fail to honor contracts. For players, it reinforces the idea that legal protection exists regardless of fame or status. For Mbappe, the ruling closes an important chapter of his career and confirms his right to what he earned during his final season in Paris.
