According to moroccoworldnews.com, popular Moroccan YouTuber, Moul Kaskita, has been arrested by Moroccan police for publicly criticizing the Moroccan king and insulting fellow Moroccans in a recent video he shared on his YouTube channel. Although he is popularly known as Moul Kaskita, his legal names are Mohammed Sekkaki. He published a video that contains insults to the Moroccan citizens as well as public institutions according to the Attorney General at the Settat’s Court of First Instance.
He was reportedly arrested on November 30, in Casablanca which is the Nation’s capital, just one day after his 12 minutes video that immediately went viral on social media was posted. In the video, he publicly criticized the Moroccan king; something that is completely against the Moroccan constitution. He also insulted his fellow citizens for their complacency in standing for their eights.
The charges that have been laid against him include using of degrading terms towards fellow citizens and their dignity and also expressing prejudice against public institutions. He was reportedly in possession of a small quantity of drugs at the time he was arrested.
He called the Moroccan people “stupid and uneducated”the main reason why he was arrested according to the Moroccan media outlet. He also added
Moroccans only care about buttocks, Moroccans do not know how to vote because they are ignorant” the YouTuber added.
Despite targeting the issues that are already in the public eye, the YouTuber’s language is considered derogatory. He considers the King’s speeches as useless, accusing the king of not having a clue of what he reads in public as speeches as he claims the speeches are all written for him.
Sekkaki had predicted his arrest before ending his video that angered the Moroccan population. It is not the first time a public figure is being arrested. In 2017, the Youtuber had facd charges of scamming, which led to several months in prison.
His YouTube channel which started back 2012, counts more than 330,000 subscribers and has more than 64 million video views as at now, which is officially a channel for comedy, but his recent videos have been targeting the government and his fellow citizens who according him are not standing up for their rights.
The Moroccan officials after trying the influencer claim that Sekkaki and other influencers are taking freedom of speech far and offending others within the Country. Watch video below (content in Arabic).
It is for a similar reason that Moroccan rapper Gnawi on November 25th was sentenced to one year in prison after the rapper insulted security officials in a social media video after his conviction.
