MondayOctober 29, 2019 marked another tragic day in Cameroon in terms of natural disasters. Bafoussam, the capital of the West region of the country was hit by a terrible landslide that caused the death of at least 42 lives. The landslide adds to the pain and sad memories of other disasters that have happened in the country.
The disaster caused an immediate reaction from Paul Biya, president of the Republic of Cameroon, who immediately took to Twitter to express his sadness about the incident. In an official communication, he sent out a condolence message to the deceased families wishing them strength.
In another message, President Paul Biya once again took to Twitter where he opted to make available 200 million FCFA (approximately $340.000) to assist the homeless people and other affected victims of the disaster in the area.
The delegation to Bafoussam from the presidency was led by Minister of Territorial Adminstration Atanga Nji Paul in representation of the president who could not make it to Bafoussam. From a few responses to the president’s tweet on making available 200 million FCFA, some people said the amount was not enough while others have said he should visit the families. What are your thoughts about the president’s gesture, regarding the the signing of 200 million CFA to assist the devastating incident?
