The UEFA Super Cup is a match that brings together the winners of the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League. It is played before the start of the new season and is considered a test of strength between Europe’s best clubs. On 13 August 2025, Paris Saint Germain wrote history by winning this trophy for the very first time. The French champions faced Tottenham Hotspur in Warsaw and the game ended in spectacular fashion.
Tottenham looked stronger in the second half, scoring through Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero after well-worked set pieces. PSG appeared to be on the brink of defeat, but they showed their resilience in the closing minutes. Lee Kang In pulled one back with a powerful strike in the 85th minute before Gonçalo Ramos equalised in stoppage time with a precise header. With the score locked at 2–2, the match went to penalties. PSG held their nerve as Nuno Mendes scored the winning spot kick to secure a 4–3 victory in the shootout.
Sadly, the night was overshadowed by an ugly incident. Mathys Tel, who missed his penalty for Tottenham, was subjected to racist abuse on social media. The club moved quickly to condemn those responsible, describing them as cowards and promising to work with authorities to take strong action. They also declared their full support for the young striker, reminding the world that soccer must never tolerate racism.
For PSG, this victory added to what has already been a golden era. The French side won Ligue 1, the Coupe de France and the UEFA Champions League last season, making them the first French club ever to complete a continental treble. They also lifted the Trophée des Champions and reached the FIFA Club World Cup final, proving their strength both in France and abroad. Now with the UEFA Super Cup in their cabinet, they continue to build a legacy of dominance.
One player who stands out in this story is Fabian Ruiz. The Spanish midfielder has collected an incredible number of trophies in a short time. Since 2023, he has won eleven major honours with PSG and Spain. His list includes three Ligue 1 titles, two Coupes de France, two Trophées des Champions, one UEFA Champions League, one UEFA Super Cup, the UEFA Nations League and the UEFA Euro 2024. Few players in modern soccer have achieved so much in just two years, and his success shows his consistency and importance to every team he plays for.
PSG’s Super Cup triumph was not only about lifting silverware. It was a statement that they can fight back even in difficult moments and that they belong among the very best in Europe. The night carried both joy and a sobering reminder of the work still to be done against racism in soccer. But above all, it was a celebration of a team that is writing new pages in soccer history and of a player like Fabian Ruiz who has become a symbol of relentless ambition and success.
