On February 11, 2022, Rema’s Calm Down single from his debut album Rave & Roses was released through Jonzing World and Mavin Records as the album’s second single. The Calm Down remix featuring Selena Gomez was released on August 25, 2022.
Nigerian singer Rema has opened up about how his collaboration with American singer Selena Gomez came through for his Calm Down remix.
According to the Nigerian superstar, it wasn’t just about the music that got her to sing in the calm Down remix. Gomez has been a fan of his music. Despite admitting that Selena who has amassed over 342 million Instagram followers and 60 million Facebook followers is a fan of his music, he believes his relationship with her made the collaboration possible.
Rema recounted that he was the one who requested for Selena to be on his Count Down remix and she hopped on the remix without any complications as she said okay. He also revealed that during his show in Los Angeles, Selena was the one who called him and told him she would attend it and before he got to the concert, she was already there.
“She called me and said she’ll come for my concert and before I got there, she was already at the concert. I didn’t believe it. In fact, I had goosebumps and I only realized what had happened when I was in my bed” Rema said.
Looking back at how Selena Gomez got on the remix, it is clear that she was more than happy to be a part of the song making it a match made in Heaven and who knows, maybe she already had some foresight that Afrobeats was gradually taking over the music scene globally and wanted to be a part of that movement and what better way to do so by experiment ing with it through Rema’s song and shooting two birds with one stone.
Most celebrities of her caliber would have had so may demands and requests before collaborating with Rema on the remix given that he does not have an extensive discography and was for the most part still a fresh in the music scene, but the fact that she hopped on the song with complicating things means that it was meant to be.
