In an industry where respect lost its place and homage or tribute to them who laid the foundation on which the new generation stands, is sometimes taken lightly, artists like Salatiel refuse to be familiar with norms.
Though many believe the genre of Makossa is struggling to regain it’s relevance, as it seems to have lost its place to the recently exploded afrobeat, it remains the identity of the country Cameroon. That it is still listed amongst the top genres of music globally, is thanks to the foundation that artists like Manu Dibango (of late memory) and Petit Pays just to name a few.
Before Manu Dibango, who lived in France for the most part of his life succumb to COVID-19 on March 24, 2020, Salatiel was one of the few young artists to have had the privilege to sit one-on-one with him, not only to present himself but to Garner much needed knowledge for his musical career.
He continues to show respect to these pacesetters, and the latest is his collaboration with Rabba Rabbi aka Petit Pays .
Petit Pays for sure needs no introduction, maybe to the new school music lovers but even a new born should know that name, though they might not really quantify what he has done for Cameroonian music.
When we talk about Petit Pays’ longevity in the music industry, we can only tag him alongside the Koffi Olomides. That’s how long he has stayed in the game, and not just staying but contributing tremendously to the rise of Cameroon music in Africa.
His music was/is the kind that everyone can relate to. He was a complete package of versatility. Saying he was because we no longer expect the same energy nowadays.
What is PELE and Why the Title?
In summary, “Pele” is a former iconic Brazilian footballer, who holds almost all the iconic trophies and records of the game. It would be quite disrespectful to use a Ronaldo or Messi, who’ve however achieved similar milestones and respect, but their age alone doesn’t permit them to be used.
As a matter of fact, Pele remains the most respected footballer of all times, and is still on top of any classifications. As such there couldn’t have been a better name used in place of “Pele”. Therefore, it’s fair to say that Petit Pays is the Pele of Music. For 50 years and counting, he has won everything, every trophy …
Worthy of note are the praises Petit Pays showers on Salatiel . He labels him “Le meilleur de sa génération” wich means “The Best of his generation” Without any doubts, the song is a hit 🎯.When you see it, you know it.
Remarkably, age is against Petit Pays already, and you can see that in the video, those usual dance moves and energy is no longer there.
Salatiel produced, mixed and mastered the song, and Mr tcheck shot and directed the beautiful piece…
