Cameroonian multi-award-winning singer, songwriter, producer, and hitmaker Salatiel Livenja Bessong, known worldwide by his stage name Salatiel, has set the bar extremely high in the music industry with the release of his debut studio album titled Africa Represented.
Salatiel, who is the CEO of one of Cameroon’s top five record labels, Alpha Better Records, has been active in the professional music scene since 2007. Over the years, he has consistently contributed to reshaping the industry narrative through innovation, leadership, and relentless creativity.
Having spearheaded the growth of artists such as Mr. Leo, Blaise B, and Askia with his exceptional leadership and production skills, the man nicknamed “The High Man General” managed to keep his own musical dream alive while producing for and investing in others.
As Cameroon’s urban music scene began gaining significant attention around 2012, Salatiel remained consistent, releasing hit after hit from 2014 onward. By 2016, his career had entered a new phase of growth, and since then, progress has been steady.
The year 2019 proved challenging, as he parted ways with Mr. Leo and Blaise B, both of whom left Alpha Better Records to focus on their own labels. Mr. Leo had already launched Lionn Production while still under Alpha Better Records, and Blaise B established his own label shortly before his departure. At that point, Salatiel shifted greater focus toward advancing his solo career. Losing two long-time artists may have been a blessing in disguise, allowing him to channel more energy into his own artistry.
Also in 2019, his career reached new heights when he featured on Beyoncé’s The Lion King: The Gift album on the track “Water,” alongside Pharrell Williams. This moment marked a major turning point. It signaled that the global spotlight was now shining even brighter on him. With that level of exposure came heightened expectations. Rather than rushing to capitalize on the moment, the 33-year-old artist took his time to craft Africa Represented, an album that many believe deserves at least a Grammy nomination.
For anyone who ever doubted his musical prowess, this album offers an opportunity to experience what many call “The Real Salatiel.” True to the belief that there is no success without teamwork, Africa Represented celebrates the essence of the African continent and features an impressive lineup of collaborators including Sauti Sol (Kenya), Teni (Nigeria), Rutshelle Guillaume (Haiti), Pascal (Cameroon), Dready Christ (Cameroon), Mr. Leo (Cameroon), Locko (Cameroon), Soul Bangs (Guinea), and Stonebwoy (Ghana).
The exceptionally talented 33-year-old Cameroonian musician has once again raised the standard for excellence. The album showcases his versatility across multiple sounds and styles.
