All we need is peace and love for what violence can do, peace can do better – Seta Beatz

When Cameroonian singer, producer, and philanthropist Seta Beatz (signed to FameBoy Records) released the visuals for “Werewa” (which means Help Us), a song his label released in 2019, we didn’t give it much thought as we thought it was just another song in line with all the peace songs we have heard and videos we have seen for them in the last year resulting from the Anglophone Crises in Cameroon.
Weeks later after the videos release, the song’s meaning could not be any more powerful as it is still a harsh reminder of the negative effects of war and not to get into religion, but March-April for Christians is a time of reflection, as Jesus resurrected from the dead and gave us another chance at a new life.
But what about those who have directly or indirectly been affected by war? Who have lost everything they worked so hard for, or children loosing their parents in war and vce-versa? Do they have a chance to be reborn and live a better life when everything around them seems so bleek?
Listening to Werewa and watching its video makes you pause, reflect and think about all these questions around war. The song which was produced by Seta Betz and Sangtum raises these questions through its video directed by Enow Walter. Let’s just say that the director did a great job in evoking emotions that remind us that war might be the solution but it will always leave a lasting and negative effect in a negative way to many.
