On February 15, 2021, Steven’s Music Entertainment the home to Daphne, Boy Tag, Ewube, and M-Pro announced the amicable end of the road for them and their former artist Shura after five years of collaborative hardwork.
While we look at the artist’s life after parting ways with the monumental record label, it is worth mentioning that the artist didn’t have a bad spell under the record as records and streaming platforms hold it. Shura became a household name not only thanks to her juicy talent, but also to the label’s extraordinary management team and skills employed.
Shura became fairly popular when she served her growing fans and many others with an irresistible piece of dazzling music “Allez Dire”. The song which was a love anthem and still remains for many, earned her some respect from industry stakeholders but also put pressure on her to do more as fans expected more from her.
With artists like Daphne and Ewube also in their prime at the time, Shura would have no choice but share the attention she was getting with them given that the same label harboured them. As time went by, Shura was beginning to not appear most often in the highlights.
This didn’t raise any eyebrows though, as every artist sometimes needs a little break to rehabilitate and re-strategize so as to come back stronger. Shura, however returned with “Voilà Moi” and “Nyamangoro” in 2019 and 2020 respectively, those happened to have been her last releases under Steven’s Music.
Nyamangoro wasn’t really received with much excitement though, but it wasn’t a bad piece either! While she had hinted a possible release of an EP in the last days of 2020, it didn’t come to realization and while we were highly anticipating, 2021 rather brought about an end to her spell with the label.
We’ve been made to understand that, the parting of ways, was amicable and so we have no doubts, as the artist was okay with the new challenge and relished it.Parting ways with Steven’s in 2021 means she’s starting life all over. This is evident as she now owns a new YouTube channel named after her [Shura Mama official] . She’s going solo from the look of things. This could be a big challenge for her but she seems to relish it with much intent.
Advantageously bilingual as she is fluent in English and French, Shura’s solo journey might be easier as she’s highly forging her way into the francophone market.
She has released a new song since going solo and its clear she’s rebranding. This should be the extra advantage that comes with independence; the ability to do you!
The question many following her career are asking themselves is can Shura rely on her current fanbase to push her through to bounce back and propel her solo career as a singer? Note that her new YouTube channel is currently just slightly over 240 subscribers as of March 11, 2021, so if you are a fan, your support will go a long way for her.
