On the evening of February 10, 2023 around 10 PM South African time, South Africa’s most popular and celebrated multiple award winning rapper AKA, whose real names are Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, was gunned down in a drive-by shooting, while standing outside of a popular restaurant in #Durban.
AKA’s bodyguard is said to have sustained some injuries but is alive, while an unidentified male who was at the scene and who is said to be his close friend also died from the shooting.
On the day of his death, AKA had actively been posting to his Instagram stories, as well as on his Instagram and Twitter pages where he announced the release of his upcoming album, Mass Country, set for release later this month. Fans flooded his comments upon hearing the news of his death.
AKA had featured in Stanley Enow’s 2016 ‘Bounce’ song and video. He leaves behind a daughter Kairo, his parents, and siblings.
