The Get The Bag concert is the first all female concert taking place in Cameroon’s financial capital – Douala on Saturday November 30. The concert which is a joint venture between The Discovery Show founded media entrepreneur, Tino Foy and hip-hip artist Askia (former member of Alpha Better Records).
The idea to do an all female concert called Get The Bag concert, was primarily as a result of a music video series and initiative created by Askia called The Bag Series, whereby she joined forces with several female artists (both established as well as up and coming artists) as a way to showcase female artists to the world who might have otherwise been unknown, sending a message of women empowerment as it showed “women supporting women”.
At a time when the music industry had slightly come to a standstill with nothing major being produced to excite people musically, with the exception of artists like Salatiel who joined forces with Beyoncé for the Lion King soundtrack, and the sounds of Yayayo by Awu which was gradually becoming one of 2019’s top favorite song, the idea of an all female concert was something that excited many as this would be the first time. Who knew that Askia would be the brains behind a ”first ever” initiative?
Thanks to Askia’s Bag Series which showcases some of Cameroon’s finest well known as well as up and coming talents (Anglophones and Francophones), many if not all of who could ”spit some serious bars” (had good lyrical skills), many would not have known about some of these talented ladies nor would the idea for an all female concert have emerged. The Get The Bag concert is being organized by The Discovery Show, founded by Tino Foy. The Discovery Show aims to showcase the best talents to the world.
If you are in Douala or any neighboring town, make sure you check it out. It will surely be a night to remember and The HotJem team will be there covering the event live. Here are some of the artists scheduled to perform at the concert:
