João Pedro Cavaco Cancelo (born 27 May 1994) is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays as a full back for La Liga club Barcelona, on loan from Premier League club Manchester City, and the Portugal national team. He recounts his story from a very tender age
At the tender age of 18, my mother passed away, leaving behind a 10-year-old brother and a father grappling with his own mental challenges.
“I found myself thrust into the role of the family’s leader. This circumstance forced me to mature quickly. I had to set an example for my brother and demonstrate to my father that I was there for them.
“Prior to my mother’s passing, I pursued my football dreams, but not with the seriousness they deserved. Afterward, I became the cornerstone of my family. I gave my all; I had no other choice. This resilience stems from my mother, my greatest inspiration. She fought throughout her life, working tirelessly.
“She is the person I admire the most, without a doubt, and I believe she blesses my steps and journey every day. ✅”
