Drake is the biggest celebrity hanger-on in pro sports. If Lamborghini made Murcielago bandwagons, Drake would splurge on a garage full of them. On Tuesday, an Instagram photo of Drake posing in a game-worn St. Vincent St. Mary LeBron James jersey came out of left field.
However, a stunning observation made by ESPN editor Jovan Buha about a pair of faint tattoos on his left arm examined Drake’s arm with more vigor than Tom Hanks in a Dan Brown novel adaption, attempting to determine whether a pair of his tats were made in homage to honor Kevin Durant and Steph Curry.
A few days ago Jovan Buha, ESPN editor noticed something really intriguing: He noticed Drake has the numbers 30 and 35 tattooed on his left arm. An initial photo, taken of Drake also showed him playing basketball in a LeBron James high school jersey of all things. This too is not entirely clear, though the numbers are definitely there.
Supposedly known to be a diehard fan of the Toronto Raptors NBA team, Drake also has a history with both Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant, stars of the Golden State Warriors team. Mind you, while working as Toronto’s “Global Ambassador.” Drake took a $25,000 fine for reportedly trying to recruit Kevin Durant (KD) to come play for the Raptors.
Moreover the RnB Star has met several times with Kevin Durant, and last year after Drake bumped into him during the Raptors’ “Drake Night” event they both made fun at each other.
Last year too, Curry, Drake, and Durant all hung out together, and Drake impersonated Curry in a more or less comic mimic. A few years ago, in “0 To 100” Curry also received a nickname-worthy shout out from Drake.
It’s worthwhile noting that “30” and “35” are the numbers inscribed on the back of the Golden State Warriors jerseys’ of Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant respectively.
I know many reading this will ask if all mentioned above is enough reason to warrant a pair of commemorative tattoos. After all, remember Drake does have it as a habit of paying tribute to celebrities with “tats”. Added to that, here are some clues on those tattoos:
- The tattoo’s font appears to be Copperplate, the very same font used by the Warriors.
- The text under “35” appears to read “SNIPE,” in possible homage to Durant’s Instagram handle, @easymoneysniper.
The tattoos appear to have been inked within the past year. As of October 2016, Drake did not have them, but by the time he performed at Coachella in April 2017 (pictured below), he did.
It’s easier to find out what’s written under the 35 tattoo, as it’s on the outside of Drake’s bicep. The 30 isn’t quite as clear in photos, especially not the new one where Drake is wearing LeBron’s high school jersey. It also appears to have a halo above the numbers. Check this out!
- It’s still not entirely clear, but it appears to read “GIFTED.” this seems like a reference to Curry.
On “Still Here,” one of Drake’s songs which is nearly impossible to find on YouTube, Drake raps… “Hittin’ like that 30 on my jersey, man, I’m gifted.” – Likely in reference to Curry.
- Another observer noted that 30 and 35 were coordinates corresponding to Israel’s location. This theory for me is more of a “Conspiracy Theory” since it fails to account for the captions; “GIFTED.” and “SNIPE”
In conclusion, since it’s widely and publicly known that Drake loves to pledge loyalty to a variety of sports teams, athletes, and celebrities especially those he’s fond of, it is highly probable that the numbers “30” and “35” tattooed on his arms are those of the NBA Stars; Stephen Curry and currently playing for the Golden State Warriors.
