There are many emerging African singers who are reshaping the narrative with their music, and T’neeya is one of them.
Born Jennifer Takoh, T’neeya is a versatile afro-soul singer from Central Africa, hailing from Douala, Cameroon. Her heritage includes a Cameroonian father (Bali) and a German mother. The German-Cameroonian singer has been gaining prominence over the past few years since beginning her music career professionally.
Growing up in Cameroon, a bilingual country, and attending school in Bamenda in the North West Region, then later pursuing further studies in Germany, not only enhanced her global communication skills but also contributed to her versatility as an artist who seamlessly navigates between cultures. Being multilingual undoubtedly enriches her musical repertoire.
Like many other popular singers who returned to Africa from abroad to pursue their music careers, T’neeya relocated to Ghana from Germany and signed with a Nigerian record label called Aristokrat Label.
The singer embraces her Cameroonian identity without hesitation. She continues to pursue her music career passionately, blending Afrosoul in English, French, Pidgin, and German. T’neeya began her professional music journey several years ago when she wrote a song for her friend from Panama, who later invited her to Panama for the song’s video shoot. This experience greatly inspired her and reinforced her belief in her musical aspirations.
While not one to chase clout, the multi-talented singer and songwriter’s journey has been captivating, resonating deeply with audiences across Africa.
The years 2023 and 2024 have been particularly rewarding for her, gaining significant recognition on platforms like TikTok. Her fanbase has grown substantially in recent months, and she has been performing at various international shows, serving as inspiration for other artists who may be doubting themselves.
