Today we’re highlighting some potential BET and Grammy award winning talented female artists from Africa who are trending in their respective countries. We will focus on these top five trending female artists in 2021 by country.
1. ELAINE
South Africa is one of the most blessed lands when it comes to the art of music. With a wide range of music genres, the country has contributed tirelessly to the growth of African music. We picked out a promising South African star girl on the move, who made her debut two years ago.
Ndivhuwo Elaine Mukheli, popularly known as Elaine, is a South African R&B singer and songwriter from Pretoria. The 22-year old signed to Columbia Records is making waves in South Africa. In 2019, she released an EP titled “Elements“ while she was still an independent artist. Since signing to Columbia Records, we’re anticipating an album. One of her popular songs is “Risky“.
2. ZUCHU
Let’s move to East Africa where there is always milk and honey. The Eastern African country of Tanzania has raised the bar really high as they always represent with numbers. A promising and yet proving her worth in the music Industry is Zuchu.
Zuhura Othman Soud, better known by her stage name Zuchu, is a Tanzanian singer and songwriter signed to Wasafi Records label. She was awarded the Silver Plaque Button by YouTube for hitting 100,000 subscribers within a week. She became the first East African female artist to reach that milestone within a week. That sounds crazy right? At 27, the future looks very bright for her. Her recent song featuring Diamond Platnumz stands at 21 million YouTube streams in just eight months. Therefore, you can’t ignore her.
3. GYAKIE
Ghana isn’t absent from the list. Jackline Acheampong known by her stage name Gyakie, is a Ghanaian afrobeat/afro fusion singer. In 2019, Gyakie released her first single titled; “Love is Pretty” which paved the way for another single, “Never Like This.” The 22-year old has been in every conversation especially after coming through with “Forever“, a song currently crooning across Africa.
4. RINYU
With artists like Daphne, Montess, Charlotte Dipanda and Gasha haven bagged international awards, the next in the lineup is no one but this song bird. This is one who many Cameroonians are placing their bet on as concerns the future of Anglophone Cameroonian music. It’s no preferential treatment but just her talent and the moves she’s making.
Signed to Akumba Music record label, Ngah Confidence knownby her stage name Rinyu who came to the spotlight in 2018 has been steadfastly rising and hasn’t slowed down since. With over nine singles under her belt, the most talked about Cameroonian rising female singer as at now, is at the verge of unboxing her first studio album which will undoubtedly be a fusion of what Cameroonian music is about.
In 2020, she broke into Nigeria with Simi’s Duduke cover, a cover that hit one Million YouTube streams in just five months. She recently Celebrated one million Boomplay streams. Anticipate her Album titled “Black Girl Magic”.
5. GUCHI
The Nigerian music industry has been at the apex of African music for the longest time and every year, artists keep popping up everywhere. Ugochi Onuoha popularly known as Guchi, is a fast-rising Nigerian singer and songwriter who came into the limelight after releasing her 2019 song “Addicted”. With a ravaging EP titled “I am Guchi”, she was the winner of Prestige Entertainment’s Best Female artiste in Abuja. Guchi’s vocal qualities have been one of her key features why fame looked pretty much susceptible via her time schedules in the Nigerian music firm.
Popularly, almost in the range of 1 million prominent upcoming artists struggle for fame every single year. To the perspective of the young songwriter, she made it look easy and that was thrust by her vocal. She is making her impact felt with her recent single “Jennifer” hits averagely 1 million views every month (it’s currently at 3 million views just after 3 months).
