The Africa Cup of Nations 2021 though played in 2022, hosted by Cameroon had so many events that we won’t be forgetting very soon. With many events, it is easy to forget some, not because they’re not important but because the events happened faster than we could imagine.
Though Cameroon were knocked out in the semis and didn’t get to win their sixth trophy as they would have wanted, they put up an amazing show. With players like Nohou Tolo and Fai Collins edging all the highlights for their dominant performances, Oyong Bitolo was as instrumental in his contributions behind the scenes, as he was on the bench.
It’s obvious that the Toulouse Left back had lost his place in the Lion’s den, due to injury, and only had been used by Conceicao as a second choice, but he’s proven that his importance goes beyond just the pitch.
Ambroise Oyongo Bitolo is always known for carrying his musical apparel around. He has always been the ambiance in the Lions’ dressing room, cheering his teammates , even when he didn’t get playing time. He’s the acronym of “Be happy for others”.
Bitolo came in the last game of the competition, against Burkina Faso. During this game, he captained the side, until Aboubaker came in, in the second half. Cameroon who were three goals down, equalized and won in the penalty shootout, with Oyongo, scoring the deciding penalty, to hand the Indomitable Lions.
