Singer and evangelist, Elizabeth Tekeh has suddenly appeared like magic and has siezed the spotlight on the African social media space for the last 24 hours. Many on social media have been in a rumble about the gospel treasure.
While you will find a good number of people making fun of the veteran singer’s self explanatory storytelling lyrical content, others are using this opportunity to go back to the drawing board and discover her contributions in the industry. It is fair to conclude that there is some truth that hasn’t been told.
Cameroonian music might have taken a different phase in the past few years, but it is imperative that respect is given to those who started it all.
Elizabeth Tekeh has been in the game for over two decades and it’s amazing how she still stays relevant despite the influx of new gospel singers and new gospel sounds. She’s amongst others who make up the foundation of the Cameroonian gospel Industry.
Like every other artist with mission, Elizabeth Tekeh’s objective has always been to use her life as an example to help others see the goodness of God. In a world where people see before believing, she conceived that her story would change a lot of minds and direct them to the church, which eventually happened.
The Bible states that “they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.” – Revelation 12:11
Elizabeth Tekeh can be credited for using her life to Influence folks into the house of God. In as much as many gospel singers today are rebranding, it is worth mentioning that most of them have drawn Inspiration from the likes of Elizabeth Tekeh and Min. Ben Awabi just to name a few.
With new creation singers having the opportunity to easily locate recording studios both offline and online, including other platforms, available to study music fundamentals, promote and sell, this was ironically not the case with her Generation.
As a matter of fact, Elizabeth Tekeh had confessed to The Post News Paper in an exclusive interview in 2005 that, she never studied music. She revealed that all she had was Inspiration from God, which inspired her to indulge in the music world, evangelically using her voice and life experiences to preach the gospel especially to safe young ladies from perishing.
She came into prominence in the era of artists like Agatha Moses who was Nigeria’s most popular gospel artist at the time. Most people would confuse between the two, because Elizabeth Tekeh could go toe-to-toe with Agatha Moses at the time.
Tekeh one of the few artists from Cameroon who made money from the art of music selling CDs at the time. Though piracy was quite alarming with little or no licensing platforms, She could still boast of a successful career in this music.
She’s is undoubtedly one of the most consistent female gospel singers from the English part of Cameroon and rumors still have it that she’s working on her next album which could be available in the days ahead.
Many youth who have little knowledge about her career have chosen to focus on her touching life Stories, but have failed to mention that songs like “Jesus Is My Security” which was released more than a decade ago had an unexplainable impact. A song that can still gets played over and over.
To crown it all, There is very little that has been told about singers like her. Many can laugh and troll her for her lyrical content in most of her tracks, but it can’t be argued that she remains a major force in the growth of the industry.
