Did you know that Adolf Hitler was once nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize?
If there’s one person who doesn’t need an introduction at all, then it’s the former German ruler Adolf Hitler, who rose to power during the second world war, with his tenure starting in 1933 till 1945 when his reign came to an end after his death.
Hitler went down in history as possibly the most notorious leader in world history. Hitler was renowned for his dictatorial leadership skills. After assuming power as the leader of the Nazi Party in 1933, Hitler became the vice Chancellor with immediate effect.
Despite being merciless and dictatorial during his time as leader, he was at some point nominated for a Noble Peace Award. But howbeit?
A Swedish Politician thought it wise to nominate the German for a noble peace award. This Swedish politician who sent the letter nominating Hitler in 1939 meant it ironically and withdrew his nomination. In an even more ironic twist, Hitler had banned Germans from accepting the awards four years before his name was thrown in the ring.
The Peace Prize which was created in 1901, awards one person each year to date, for the work that makes peace between countries, reduces standing armies, and creates peace organizations. This was initiated by Swedish Alfred Nobel.
Are you thinking what we’re thinking? What was the relationship between Hitler and peace?
