WHAT YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT MICHAEL JACKSON
Did you know that despite being dead, Michael Jackson who is labeled as the King of Pop, is also considered to be the most successful musician of all time? I mean we already knew that but with the era where music is fully digitalized, today’s artists are seeing spikes in their music streaming and accessibility
Although it’s been 14 years since Jackson died, his groundbreaking records are insane. These records were even more unreal because during his time, media was not as accessible as it it today in most parts of the globe as well as access to streaming music.
Jackson holds several records, some which might remain unbeaten today. Some of these records include;
- The most sold-out shows at Wembley Stadium, with 7 sold-out concerts in 1988, the best-selling music video of all time with “Thriller”, and the highest-earning deceased artist with $825 million in 2016.
- He holds records for the largest TV audience for a music video premiere with an estimated 500 million people in 27 countries who watched the premiere of Michael Jackson’s (USA) “Black or White” video on November 14, 1991. The 11-minute clip, directed by John Landis (who directly Jackson’s “Thriller” video), reportedly cost $4 million to make. John
- He holds the most Grammys won in one night, he won 8 Grammy’s in a single night.
- He’s the first musician to earn over $100 million in a year and to have the most expensive (Red/black) jacket sold at auction for his “Thriller jacket,” which sold for $1.8 million
Michael Jackson is only artist to have humbled rapper Eminem, after he bought over the rapper’s catalog following a beef they had and was making money off every performance Eminem did. Jackson also supported over 39 charity organizations, donating over $500 million to charity throughout his life.
Will the world ever see another Michael Jackson?
